Evans, GA (January 9, 2023) – On Monday afternoon, January 9, a school bus collision involving a go-kart injured a child in Evans.
According to Columbia County officials, the accident happened in the River Island subdivision in an unidentified area. A child was riding a go-kart in the area when they were suddenly struck and run over by a school bus. It is not known if the bus driver did not see the child in time but the driver remained at the scene until help arrived.
Several Evans responders, including local fire crews and paramedics, were dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The child, identified only as a 6-year-old, was injured as a result of the accident. They were rushed to the hospital for treatment, though their current condition is not yet known.
Due to the severity of the collision, a large portion of the road was blocked for some time. This led to delays until the scene was cleared.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
We offer our warmest thoughts and prayers to the child injured in this accident with hopes of a full recovery.
