Decatur, GA (December 27, 2022) – On December 25, a man and a son were killed in a fatal house fire that took place in a neighborhood in Decatur.

According to DeKalb County officials, the fire broke out in a home on Thompson Circle around 3:15 a.m. When firefighters received the call, they arrived at the scene to find that a home was completely engulfed in flames and smoke. Neighbors approached fire crews and alerted them that two men were still inside the home.

Paramedics and various other responders were called to the scene to assist those in need. Fire crews pulled out the first man from the home, who received smoke inhalation injuries. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but tragically passed away while there. The other man was found dead inside the back of the home due to the fire.

Due to the severity of the fire, a large portion of the area was blocked for some time. Police did not confirm what led up to the fire at this time.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.
