Columbia, SC – Update: Leon Jones Jr Dies in Crash on I-77

Columbia, SC (December 14, 2021) – Local authorities have identified the man killed following a single-vehicle crash in the Columbia area on Sunday morning, December 12. The deadly accident occurred on Interstate 77 near mile marker 10 at around 12:30 a.m. 

It was later revealed that 33-year-old Leon Jones Jr. was riding as a passenger in a Ford Crown Victoria on the highway when the driver left the roadway. The vehicle veered off the right side of the road and crashed into a tree. 

Jones suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another passenger were taken to a nearby hospital for the treatment of sustained injuries. No additional details have been made public at this time. 

An ongoing crash investigation is underway.
