Fatal Hit-&-Run Accidents in South Carolina

Columbia, SC - Pedestrian Dies in Hit-&-Run at Fairfield & Crane Church Rd

In the United States, the number of hit-and-run collisions has reached all-time highs. In 2015, there were over 737,100 hit-and-run collisions reported across the United States. This means that on average one occurred every 43 seconds. There were 2,149 confirmed hit-and-run deaths in 2016, and that figure is the highest ever recorded.

A number of factors can be blamed for the rise in fatal pedestrian collisions. Distracted driving has become a major safety issue in South Carolina, but it isn’t the only factor that causes pedestrian accidents. The state has one of the country’s highest rates of pedestrian fatalities. The majority of these accidents, according to our Columbia personal injury attorneys, are caused by driver distraction, intoxication, or general negligence behind the wheel.
