Deadly Head-On Collisions in South Carolina
Head-on collisions are more likely to result in fatal injuries than other types of car crashes. With a fatality rate of over 58%, head-on collisions are among the deadliest possible. Despite accounting for less than 2% of all reported traffic accidents, they are responsible for more than 10% of all road deaths each year. Careless or distracted drivers frequently merge into opposing lanes of traffic, and when a motorist merges into opposing traffic, they risk colliding head-on with another driver. Even at low speeds, these collisions can be fatal.
If you have lost a loved one in a deadly car crash, a wrongful death claim can potentially offer you some sort of financial compensation. In South Carolina, you must understand who can file a claim and when a wrongful death claim is appropriate. Under the wrongful death statute, a wrongful death lawsuit is appropriate when an at-fault party was the direct cause of the victim’s death. The claim, which is an attempt to establish the defendant’s negligence, should be filed with a representative of the deceased party.
