Fatal Car Accidents in South Carolina

Columbia, SC – Heyward Brockington Rd Crash Takes One Life

South Carolina is no stranger to vehicle accidents. In 2021, we have already seen more than a thousand people die as a result of fatal car crashes in our state. There are several reasons why fatal collisions continue to take place every day on our roadways.

In South Carolina, the leading factor in fatal collisions that we see is reckless driving. Hundreds of people end up passing away as a result of drivers who are speeding or engaging in other acts of negligence while behind the wheel.

Drunk or drugged driving is another leading factor in fatal crashes across our state. When drivers are impaired, they lack the ability to operate their vehicles responsibly. Impaired drivers may not be able to make sound decisions in time to avoid collisions. Unfortunately, drivers who are impaired may also struggle to maintain a single lane of travel. As a result, they can go off of the side of the roadway and strike other vehicles or crash into trees nearby.

We also see many accidents take place as a result of distractions. When people are texting on the phone or talking to other people inside their vehicles, they may not have their attention on the road ahead. As a result, they can quickly miss seeing other vehicles or objects nearby.
