South Carolina Deadly Pedestrian Crashes

Columbia, SC - Heriberto Torres, Beatriz Pena-Jose Fatally Hit on I-26

A pedestrian has very little protection in the event of a traffic accident, which means they are more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries. There were 5,376 pedestrian deaths in the United States in 2015. According to statistics, a pedestrian was killed every 1.6 hours on average that year, with a pedestrian injury every 7.5 minutes. Pedestrian fatalities are on the rise in the United States, with a nearly 10% increase in 2015.

A number of factors have contributed to the rise in fatal pedestrian collisions. Distracted driving has become a major safety issue in South Carolina, but it isn’t the only cause of pedestrian accidents. The state has one of the highest rates of pedestrian fatalities in the country, according to statistics. The majority of these accidents, according to our Columbia personal injury attorneys, are caused by driver distraction, intoxication, or general negligence behind the wheel.
