Columbia, SC (December 2, 2022) – A man who was speeding in a school zone ultimately caused a fatal crash in the Columbia area on Friday morning, December 2.
The driver, 25-year-old Shylek Pringle, was reportedly speeding in a school zone on Zimalcrest Drive when a nearby police officer attempted to pull him over. Pringle did not stop and a chase ensued. The motorist entered into oncoming traffic soon after and collided with another vehicle at the corner of Browning Road and Fairhaven Drive.
The other motorist suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. Pringle is currently facing charges related to speeding in a school zone, unlawful possession, and driving under suspension from DUI.
An ongoing investigation into the cause of the fatal accident is in progress.
We would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased victim at this time.
Between 94 and 96 percent of all highway accidents, according to the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration, are the result of driver negligence. Data from South Carolina reveal a similar pattern. The leading cause of all collisions and accidents that resulted in injuries in South Carolina in 2019 was driving too fast for the circumstances.
If a loved one passed away as a result of someone else’s negligence, you might be entitled to compensation. You need the assistance of an accomplished personal injury lawyer because there are numerous different types of damages that can be claimed in a wrongful death lawsuit.
Even while a wrongful death claim and a personal injury case appear to be comparable, they aren’t the same. The person who passed away cannot represent themself in a wrongful death lawsuit. Instead, it will be up to the deceased person’s surviving family members to decide who qualifies to bring a wrongful death lawsuit.
At Monge & Associates, helping families who lost a loved one as a result of someone else’s negligence has always been our top priority. After a fatal accident, our attorneys help the surviving family members file a claim against the negligent parties in order to obtain just compensation. You shouldn’t be held responsible for paying for a family member’s funeral and other accident-related costs if they passed away as a result of someone else’s carelessness.
