Clarkesville, GA – Two Injured in Car Accident on Panther Creek Trl Near GA-15
Clarkesville, GA (October 19, 2022) – Two people sustained injuries in a car accident that took place near an intersection in Clarkesville on Tuesday morning, October 18.
According to Rabun County officials, the accident happened around 6:45 a.m. at the intersection of Panther Creek Trail and GA-15. Police confirmed that a Rabun County Sheriff’s Office employee identified as 22-year-old Anthony Ortega was traveling in a Ford Taurus in the area of Panther Creek Lane and GA-15. The Taurus was struck by a northbound Chevrolet Express driven by 48-year-old Mario Morin-Mendez. The Chevrolet traveled across both lanes of traffic and landed in a ditch. The involved vehicles were badly damaged in the collision.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. Ortega sustained a minor injury and was taken to Habersham Medical Center for treatment. Morin-Mendez sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene.
The roadway was blocked in the area for an extended period of time. Police determined that Ortega was at fault for the accident and he received a warning.
The investigation into the circumstances of the collision continues. Police will update with more information as it becomes available.
