South Carolina Deadly Pedestrian Crashes
In the United States, pedestrian fatalities are on the rise, with a nearly 10% increase in 2015. In the event of a traffic accident, a pedestrian has very little protection, which means they are more likely to suffer life-threatening injuries. In 2015, there were 5,376 pedestrian deaths across the country. A pedestrian was killed every 1.6 hours on average that year, with a pedestrian injury every 7.5 minutes, according to statistics.
A number of factors have contributed to the rise in fatal pedestrian collisions. Distracted driving has become a major safety issue in South Carolina, but it isn’t the only cause of pedestrian accidents. The state has one of the highest rates of pedestrian fatalities in the country, according to statistics. The majority of these accidents, according to our Charleston personal injury attorneys, are caused by driver distraction, intoxication, or general negligence behind the wheel.
