Canton, GA (December 16, 2022) – Around 3 p.m. on the afternoon of Thursday, December 15, a man was killed in a fatal rear-end collision in Canton.
According to Cherokee County officials, the accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-575 around the area of Old Vandiver Road. Police confirmed that 66-year-old Daniel Blankowski, a DJ in Cherokee County, was driving in the area when he was involved in a rear-end collision with a second vehicle. The other vehicle was allegedly stopped in the area due to another accident.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. Blankowski was rushed to a local hospital with traumatic injuries caused by the accident. He was tragically pronounced dead while there. The other driver was hurt but is expected to make a full recovery.
A large portion of the road was blocked for an extended period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.
No further details have been released but the investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
