Calhoun, GA (December 29, 2022) – Around 9:20 p.m. on the night of Tuesday, December 27, a deputy sustained injuries in a car accident in Calhoun.
According to Gordon County officials, the accident happened on Stendal Drive. Police confirmed that they arrived in the area due to a reported domestic disturbance with a drunk man who assaulted another man. The drunk man then stole a vehicle. The involved deputy saw the drunk man fleeing the scene. While police were attempting to stop the suspect, he rammed into the back of a patrol cruiser.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were immediately dispatched to the scene to help those in need. The deputy who was inside the rammed patrol cruiser had to extricate himself despite having injuries caused by the accident. He was taken to Gordon Hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay.
Police confirmed that the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Justin Tyler Marshall, was also injured and hospitalized. He has since been charged with aggravated assault, motor vehicle theft, DUI, and more and remains in jail.
The investigation into the circumstances of the accident continues at this time.
