Motorcycle Crashes in South Carolina

Bluffton, SC - Injuries Reported After Pickup Hits Motorcyclist on US-278

When you ride a motorcycle, you are more exposed to the dangers of the road. In 2010, there were 1,819 motorcycle accidents, a 5.8% rise from the previous year, inflicting 1,984 injuries and leaving 81 persons dead. The typical motorcycle accident victim in South Carolina is 41 years old. A total of 7.7% of all road deaths are caused by motorcycle accidents.

Because South Carolina has such a lovely warm climate, motorcyclists may ride their bikes on the state’s roads and highways throughout the whole year. Riding motorbikes is an activity that may be both entertaining and useful, but it also carries with it the risk of injury. Due to the state of the roadway in South Carolina, motorcyclists are not only at risk of being involved in collisions with other, larger cars, but they are also at risk of being involved in accidents involving a single vehicle.

Every motorist should be aware that they have a responsibility to safely share the road with motorcyclists. However, there are still drivers on the road who are reckless and careless. Defective motorcycles, road construction, and other potentially hazardous road conditions all provide substantial dangers to motorcyclists and can increase the likelihood of a collision or perhaps a deadly accident.
