How to Protect Yourself During the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Outbreak

Monge & Associates, P.C.

The Coronavirus has the world in a panic, but how the public responds will greatly affect the magnitude of this crisis. By following the CDC's tips for prevention and treatment, YOU can help prevent the spread of this virus.

Protecting yourself

The two best ways to protect yourself are to clean your hands often and avoid close contact with people who are sick or beginning to show signs of illness.

Washing handsThe CDC says proper hand washing uses soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. They recommended that you wash your hands after you have been in a public place or after coughing, blowing your nose, or sneezing. If soap and water is not readily available, hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol is an acceptable substitute but should not completely replace hand washing. You should also avoid touching your face, eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoiding close contact with individuals who could be sick is also a good way to avoid the illness. The CDC recommends that if COVID-19 is spreading in your community you should put distance between yourself and those that are carrying the virus. This step is especially important for people who are at higher risk of getting very sick.

Protecting Others

Sick childIt is just as important to protect your community from this virus as it is to protect yourself. So, what is the best way to protect your community? Stay home when you are sick!

The CDC urges people to stay home when they are sick. Those who have symptoms of acute respiratory illness are recommended to stay home and not come to work until they are free of fever, signs of a fever, and any other symptoms for at least 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing or other symptom-altering medicines (e.g. cough suppressants). If you are exhibiting any signs of COVID-19, you should only leave your home for medical treatment. It is also important to call ahead to tell the medical facility that you may be infected. They may have a containment area for anyone who may possibly have the virus.

Many people believe that wearing a face mask will greatly reduce your risks, however, this is creating a shortage of face masks for medical professionals. The CDC suggests that you only wear a face mask if you are sick or a care giver for someone who is sick.

Another great way to help protect yourself and your community is to clean and disinfect all frequently touched surfaces on a daily basis. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, desks, phones, toilets, faucets, sinks, and more. If surfaces are dirty always clean them before you disinfect them.

Protecting Your Workplace

Here at Monge and Associates, our employee and client’s health is our number one priority. With the recent COVID-19 virus spread we are taking every precaution given by the CDC to ensure that our offices are virus free so that we can continue to deliver big settlements to our amazing clients.

CleaningBased on current understanding the COVID-19 virus is spread through close contact and through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. To combat this we have made both hand sanitizer and disinfectant spray readily available to all employees and visitors.

Outside of regular handwashing protocol, all of our team members are also encouraged to wash their hands more regularly as well as before and after meeting with clients and visitors to our office. Our offices are being disinfected every night after regular working hours to ensure a clean workplace every morning.
