Scott Monge Examines 2 Freak Accidents That Left Workers with Critical Injuries
Most people don’t realize how much our economy relies on the trucking industry. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the industry delivers $4,422 worth of goods every second of the day. Trucking already commands 83.7 percent of the transportation industry, and experts believe it will still grow more than 20 percent in the next decade. Trucking makes it possible to operate large warehouse stores, but it comes at a cost.
Trucks are heavy—some reach 20,000 pounds—and some drivers have financial incentive to work without enough rest. This results in a high rate of accidents that claim the lives of innocent drivers. The weight difference between trucks and passenger cars means those victims who do survive often suffer very serious injuries that affect their quality of life.
If you’ve been involved in a truck accident, a personal-injury lawyer from Monge & Associates in Atlanta can help you seek the justice you deserve. Filing a personal-injury lawsuit after a truck accident means fighting against a large trucking company. 1. Tractor-Trailer Accident Kills Two
Police believe that a tractor-trailer driver may have been distracted before he struck a car that was stopped and waiting to turn on the highway. Investigators report that the truck driver noticed the car stopped and attempted to swerve but rear-ended it anyway. After the initial collision, an oncoming vehicle also struck the car.
MLive News reports that the two women in the car both died at the scene. The truck driver and the driver of the third vehicle both suffered serious injuries, as well. Police say they are still investigating and could press charges if they determine the truck driver was acting negligently.
2. Police Still Looking for Truck Driver After Fatal Accident
Everything about tractor-trailers is oversized. Two tires weigh approximately 400 pounds. According to TribLive News, two tires from a trailer came free and bounced into oncoming traffic.
The giant tires collided into Scott Rice’s car, and he died at the scene. Police say they aren’t sure whether the tires fell off of the axles of a truck or the truck was hauling tires. In any case, the driver didn’t remain at the scene. Rice’s passenger suffered severe arm and head injuries in the incident and remains hospitalized in an unknown condition. Police say the driver may not have realized the tires came loose.
