Augusta, GA – Injuries Reported in Rollover Accident on I-20

Augusta, GA (August 13, 2022) – Injuries stemmed from a serious rollover accident that took place on an Augusta highway on Friday afternoon, August 12. 

According to Augusta Police, the accident happened at 4:47 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-20 near mile marker 1. Due to the accident being so close to the state line, both Georgia State Patrol officials and South Carolina Highway Patrol officials responded. Several vehicles collided with each other due to unknown reasons, causing one of the vehicles to overturn. The involved vehicle was extensively damaged and left debris throughout several lanes of traffic. 

Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. One or more parties were seriously injured as a result of the accident. The injured parties were taken to local hospitals for treatment, though their conditions are not yet known. 

The roadway was blocked in several eastbound lanes of traffic for an extended period of time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible. 

Police continue their investigation into the circumstances of the accident at this time.
