Athens, GA (January 17, 2023) – One person was injured in a car accident that took place at an intersection in Athens on the afternoon of Sunday, January 15.
According to the University of Georgia Police Department, the accident happened at 12:58 p.m. at the intersection of Oconee Street and Williams Street. Police confirmed that two vehicles were traveling in the area when they entered the intersection at the same time, causing them to collide with each other. The involved vehicles sustained severe damage as a result of the accident.
Paramedics, fire crews, and several other responders were called to the scene to help those in need. One of the drivers, who has not yet been formally identified, was injured in the crash. They were treated at the scene by EMS crews for a foot injury.
The roadway was blocked in the area of the intersection for some time following the accident. This led to delays until the scene was cleared.
