Albany, GA – Two Injured in Serious Pedestrian Accident on Liberty Expy

Albany, GA (July 3, 2022) – On Saturday, July 2, two people were injured in a serious pedestrian accident on a highway in Albany.

According to Albany Police Department officials, the accident happened at 600 Liberty Expressway. A female driver was inside a Ford Explorer and headed west when she had to pull over in the emergency lane due to a malfunction in one of her tires. The passenger inside the vehicle got out so that they could fix the tire.

While the tire was being fixed, a driver saw the vehicle that was pulled over and stopped to help. The driver stood and waved her cellphone around so that motorists traveling in the area could see the drivers. A 2015 Nissan Altima was traveling in the area and struck the passenger fixing the tire, as well as the pedestrian who was trying to help them with her cellphone. They were both transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for treatment and are expected to be okay.

Due to the severity of the accident, the roadway was blocked in several lanes for some time. Police worked to clear the scene as quickly as possible.

No further details have been released but the investigation remains ongoing.

We offer our warmest thoughts to those recovering from injuries caused by this accident.
